The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Whenever a major honors show nears, you'll find a clamor for introducing of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
